Today was the first day of school for much of Gainesville, and it totally made me want to go back and do it all over again. I spent the morning with a group of first graders for a "back to school" story, and I keep thinking of all the kids I started first grade with and how much we all grew over those 12 or so years in school together. I almost wish I could look into the future and see how this group will turn out and if they'll remember the gangly weird looking photographer who took their pictures on the first day. On Friday I was lucky enough to photograph the High Tide Aquatics swim club early in the morning and spend an exhilarating two hours shooting their practice at Northeast Pool underwater. Then scooting across town, I met up with the Florida Fencing Academy and tried my best to get close to the action and still walk out with both eyes and all four limbs still in tact. JoAnn Shaw's brother, a United States Airforce pilot, was shot down while serving his second term during the vietnam war in 1970. Shaw has been searching for her missing brother ever since, and currently serves as the Florida coordinator for the National League of POW/MIA.
